What We Offer

STAR Center offers comprehensive services for clients and families living with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), ADHD, autistic spectrum disorders, feeding problems, sensory-based learning difficulties, and other developmental and behavioral issues.

Assessment and Evaluation
laying the groundwork for treatment
Telephone Screening - OPTIONAL, if needed – to determine whether differences in development are sufficient to warrant an Intake Evaluation
Intake Evaluation – to review developmental history, presenting problems, previous assessments, and current questions/issues
Comprehensive assessment – to obtain test and other data needed to develop an individual treatment plan
Multidisciplinary evaluation – to evaluate quality-of-life indicators in clients including relationships and engagement, social participation, self-regulation, self-esteem, and components skills such as sensory, motor, cognitive, and psychosocial characteristics. Includes medical history and physical.
Post-testing – to determine how much change has resulted from treatment
Treatment Services – intervention for clients and their families Occupational therapy – OT with a sensory integration approach (OT/SI)
Combination therapy – occupational therapy in combination with one or more other therapies provided e.g., listening therapy, DIR/Floortime approach, interactive metronome, Makoto, and others
Intensive treatment – daily therapies for clients coming from out of town; treatment three times weekly for in-town clients
Feeding therapy – the SOS Approach to Feeding Program (see below)
Psychosocial services – skill-building to enhance development and emotional well-being of either/both children and family members
Speech-language therapy – evaluation, consultation, and/or direct therapy in verbal communication
Nutrition consultation
Home and school consultation – on-site observation at home, school, or elsewhere
Parent education – coaching for family members both during and independent of therapy sessions
Goal attainment scaling – monitoring of measurable goals for treatment and monitoring of their attainment
SOS Feeding Solutions – for feeding and weight/growth difficulties

Transdisciplinary feeding assessments – 2-hour comprehensive evaluation by an integrated team of 5 specialists and 2 hours of parent feedback/education
Condensed feeding evaluations – 1-hour assessment with 1-2 members of the evaluation team followed by 30-minute discussion with parents
Individual feeding therapy – Food School for a single child and his/her parent(s)
Group feeding therapy – Food School for groups of 4-6 children and their parents
Education and Research – reinforcing and expanding knowledge of SPD Education at STAR Center
  • Family-centered treatment – in which parent education is a keystone
Education with the SPD Foundation
  • International Symposiums – annually in spring and fall
  • Intensive Mentorships – 8-10 times each year for professionals
