Kay A. Toomey, PhD
Director
Dr. Kay Toomey is a pediatric psychologist who has worked with children who don't eat for nearly 20 years. She is the developer of the highly effective, family-centered SOS Approach to Feeding in successful use worldwide to assess and treat children with feeding problems. In addition to directing SOS Feeding Solutions at STAR Center, Dr. Toomey speaks nationally and internationally about her approach. She also acts as a consultant to Gerber Products. Dr. Toomey helped establish The Children's Hospital Pediatric Oral Feeding Clinic in Denver and Rose Medical Center's Pediatric Feeding Center, also in Denver. Dr. Toomey co-chaired the Pediatric Therapy Services Department at Rose Medical Center prior to entering private practice. She is currently the president of Toomey & Associates, Inc., which provides her speaking services.
Michael S.B. Frank, MD, FAAP
Pediatrician
Dr. Michael Frank is a board-certified pediatrician who has specialized in diagnosing and treating ADHD since 2001. A partner in Southeast Denver Pediatrics and a medical consultant to Dr. Kay Toomey's practice in feeding solutions, Dr. Frank's training and experience have developed expertise in the differential diagnostic methods necessary to distinguish SPD from other conditions with similar-appearing symptoms, such as ADHD. Dr. Frank is a graduate of Stanford University, studied medicine at the University of Texas, and completed his residency at The Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio,
Jessica L. Crandall, RD
Registered dietician
With experience in both acute-care and outpatient settings, Jessica brings to SOS Feeding Solutions diversified experience in nutritional counseling and care. Accredited by the American Dietetics Association, Jessica is a graduate of Colorado State University and Oneonta in New York. She has worked with children who have feeding problems, gastrointestinal tubes, and special nutritional needs and has counseled adults for weight management, cardiac diet modification, renal issues, oncology, and general nutrition.
Amanda Lester, MS, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist / Feeding Specialist
Amanda is an experienced pediatric speech pathologist who has worked with children in school, hospital, and private practice settings. While she works with a variety of diagnoses, she has specialized in treating children with emotional disorders and feeding disorders. In addition to working with Dr. Toomey since 2005, Ms. Lester is also employed at a local Denver hospital providing pediatric speech, language, and feeding services.
Erin Ross, PhD, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist / Infant Feeding Specialist
Dr. Ross received her doctor of philosophy from the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center in May 2007, and her master's degree in speech and language pathology from California State University, Stanislaus, in May 1988. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the section of nutrition, Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Ross works clinically in several NICU settings in the Denver metropolitan area in addition to her work with SOS Feeding Solutions. She has a specialized interest and expertise in evaluating and treating feeding and growth problems in the medically fragile infant and young child. She also speaks internationally on the subject of feeding and growth in the medically fragile infant.
